It’s my homemade take on a soda shop’s protein refresher

During the warmer months, I crave fresh and fruity drinks, but I don’t really love the calories and sugar that come along with them. Thankfully, last summer I was introduced to a great alternative. I stopped at a local soda shop and tried what they called a protein refresher. It was delicious, but also expensive. I knew I had to recreate it at home and I’m so glad I did.

The shop had listed clear protein as the main ingredient, so I did some research and found Clean Simple Eats Clear Protein on Amazon, which is 90 calories and 20g of protein per serving. I ordered the blue Bahama flavor. It seemed the closest to what I ordered at the soda shop and the idea of the blue raspberry coconut combo had me reminiscing about the snow cone shacks of my childhood.

I was skeptical of the clear protein powder at first, worried that the drink would be chalky or have a weird taste. I ended up being seriously impressed. In a blind taste test, I’d never be able to tell I was drinking something with a protein supplement in it.

While my recipe below uses it in a tropical mocktail, it would also be delicious added into a milkshake, vanilla yogurt, and maybe even Jell-O.

This tropical protein mocktail I made is about 165 calories, has 20g of protein, and about 8g of fat. You can easily swap the coconut milk out with your preferred milk, but the coconut milk is what truly brings it together and makes it feel decadent.
