Finding a Cyber Monday rowing machine deal is easy. Finding a good Cyber Monday rowing machine deal is much, much harder. That's where I can help.
Rowers are an ever-present in my regular CrossFit training, and my affinity with these cardio-boosting tools led to me testing many of the best rowing machines for Fit&Well and LiveScience.
When I'm not reviewing the likes of the Hydrow Wave and Ergatta Rower, I can often be found hitting an interval session at home on my very own Concept2 RowErg.
In other words, I know what to look for in a quality rowing machine. I also know the difference between a genuinely good deal and a dodgy discount you're better off discounting.

When do rowing machines go on sale?
Black Friday falls on November 24 in 2023, with Cyber Monday coming three days later. But these aren’t the only dates when you can snap up a cut-price rowing machine.
Brands and retailers have started discounting products progressively earlier to get a jump on the competition, with deals visible from as early as October.
Some rowing machines, and other fitness products, also remain in deals following Amazon’s new late-year sale event, Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, which took place across October 10 and 11.

Is it worth buying a cheap rowing machine?
We have rowing machines to suit most budgets in this list. But what is it that separates the affordable options from the premium machines, and which one is right for you?
People who want to buy a rower tend to fall into one of three camps, and I think each one needs something different from their prospective machine.
Bona fide rowers: These are people wanting to develop their rowing technique and endurance. CrossFit fans also fall into this category.
Dedicated rowers will want the realistic and reliable approach of the Concept2 RowErg (or a cut-price alternative like the JTX Freedom Air). The dynamic air resistance mirrors an on-water rowing feel, and chances are the Concept2 is the machine their gym, box or boathouse uses to train.
At-home fitness fans: Next up are those who want to base the bulk of their weekly workouts around the rowing machine they're buying.
For me, anyone wanting an all-in-one home workout solution will be best-served by a smart rower like the Hydrow, Hydrow Wave, NordicTrack RW900 or Echelon Row.
These tend to be the most expensive option, but the ability to access hundreds of workouts on the brand's respective apps can help add structure to your training, boost your motivation levels and make your sessions more enjoyable.
Most of these apps also offer off-rower workout options like strength sessions, HIIT and yoga, giving you a more fun and varied exercise routine.
Casual rowers: Finally we have those who just want a solid low-impact cardio option at home, either to help them hit their health goals like increasing activity levels and losing weight, or to keep moving while recovering from injury.
This camp can save themselves some money by opting for an affordable option, although I wouldn't drop below the 200 quid/buck mark.
Machines like the JLL R200 in the UK or the Sunny Health and Fitness Rowing Machine in the US offer the solid, dependable performance needed for a decent full-body workout.
What should you look for in a rowing machine?
From burning calories to strengthening bones, working your upper and lower body simultaneously to offering a low impact alternative to running, the rowing machine benefits offered by quality products should be fairly uniform. So what separates a good rowing machine from a great one?
Size: The best rowing machine for you is one that will fit comfortably in your home workout space. Taller users may also require a model with a longer rail so they can fully extend their legs with each stroke.
Storability: If you’re lucky enough to have a home gym, this might not be a concern. But, if you’re looking for a living room workout tool, a foldable machine with wheels for easy movement is a major plus.
Features: If you’re a self-starter when it comes to working out, the basic display and realistic rowing experience of the Concept2 RowErg will suit you down to the ground. However, if you want more direction with your exercise, the coaching and follow-along classes of the Hydrow might be more your speed.
Type: Most rowing machines fall into one of three categories; air, water or magnetic. These categories describe how they generate resistance. Water rowers are quiet and realistic, but can be expensive, air-based machines are cheaper and equally dynamic, but are often quite noisy, and magnetic models are more affordable, quiet, but can lack the on-water feel of their counterparts.
When is Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2023?
Black Friday arrives on November 24 in 2023, with sales continuing until Cyber Monday on November 27. However, nowadays retailers rarely restrict their offers to this weekend alone, so keep an eye out for great deals in the run-up to and aftermath of the event.
